Fashion Inspiration: Lauren Conrad

Whenever somebody asks me, "who's your fashion inspiration?", the answer is easy. Lauren Conrad's casual yet super girly style is exactly what I strive for. As a fan of The Hills I can appreciate Lauren's growth in personal style. From early 2000's grunge to classy and feminine, Lauren Conrad has blossomed into a fashion icon.
What I admire most about Lauren's style is her ability to make causal so chic as well as the simplicity found in her outfits. She can throw on a dress and some heels and looks completely put together but not over the top. Overall I think Lauren Conrad has impeccable taste and she is definitely one of my fashion inspirations.

What do you think about Lauren's style? Who is your biggest fashion inspiration?

Thank you for reading!

Fall and Winter Fashion Haul: Forever21 and H&M!

My sister and I recently went on a little shopping spree whilst we were out of town for Thanksgiving. The town that we live in does not have a Forever21 or an H&M, I know, unbelievable! So we took the chance to go to these two stores when we were in Spokane and we found so many adorable pieces for very reasonable prices.

We made a haul video and put it up on our YouTube channel and it would mean SO much to me if some of you checked it out. I find haul videos so entertaining and they make me very relaxed for some reason, so we just had to do a haul video after our amazing shopping during Thanksgiving break.

I hope all of you had an AMAZING Thanksgiving!!!

Hello Halloween!

If you know me, and I'm assuming not many of you don't, you will know that I love dressing up...like a lot...I also have a huge sweet tooth and a deep love for candy, that makes Halloween the perfect holiday for me. Although I did not have an extremely exciting Halloween this year (unless you count eating candy and reblogging pictures on Tumblr exciting) I had a great time experimenting with costumes throughout the Halloween season and taking many a "spooky selfie".

1) My first costume is a 1920's Great Gatsby inspired look! A bob haircut, dramatic makeup and pearls really give this costume a "flapper girl vibe".

2) My second costume is the one and only Miley Cyrus. This look was by far the easiest, wear all white, put your hair into space buns, slap on some red lipstick and you are ready to roll! Don't forget to stick your tongue out though!

3) My third and final costume was basically all done with makeup! Just use liquid latex, tissue paper, white face makeup and some fake blood and you will be transformed into a hideous zombie!(Watch Michelle Phan's YouTube tutorial for specific instructions.)

I hope all of you had a happy Halloween!

What did you dress up as this year? :)

More Fall Outfit Ideas

Autumn as proven to be an extremely beautiful time of year, not only in terms of the gorgeous landscapes but also the adorable outfits that come with the cooler weather!

Recently my sister and I have shown our YouTube channel some fall love with a couple of fall themed videos!

This first video took a lot longer than our usual videos but I think it is one of my favorites. :) I hope you enjoy Aline and I's Fall Outfit Ideas!

This second video is one that I made on my own and it is a "Get Ready With Me" style video and of course it is themed around fall!

I hope you check out these videos and if you do comment below:   "Michelle's blog sent me :)".

I hope you find these videos entertaining or helpful and that they inspire you to "fall" more in love with the fall season! :)

That's it for now.

FALLing in Love With Fall Fashion

There is something very comforting about the fall. Not only is it chalked full of warm sweaters, yummy smelling candles, and delightful seasonal drinks but it is a season where I always feel like I get a fresh start, maybe it's the new school year, the new cool-weather-clothes or maybe even the leaves of the past year falling to the ground, but all of them put together make fall seem like the perfect season to start all over.

Today my friend, Riley, and I went to take some fall inspired photos on our University's campus, where we had a wonderful time enjoying the gorgeous fall weather, pulling a few weird body parts while using self-timer, and being stared at awkwardly by passersby. Of course we also got some great photos that documented our fall inspired outfits as well as the lovely time we had this morning.

Often times people think that cooler weather means saying goodbye to dresses and skirts, however, this is not the case at all! As you can see with Riley and I's outfit choices we are not letting go of our dresses anytime soon. Just make sure you choose a "non-sundress" dress and layer up your pieces with warm cardigans and tights/leggings, this will make sure you don't get cold as well as creating a more autumnal look.

You can never go wrong with boots as your foot-ware of choice throughout the fall season, they are cute, go with everything and keep you warm!

My cowboy boots
are a fun addition
to any fall outfit!
Riley's adorable ankle boots are the
perfect touch on a feminine outfit
during the fall.

For our earrings, Riley and I both chose fall colored jewelry. Deep greens, coppery colors, golds, topes and browns are great colors for accessorizing throughout the fall season!

Fall fashion is definitely one of my favorites, whether it's a cute girly look with a dress involved or just a chunky sweater with leggings, fall fashion is super comfortable and absolutely adorable!

What about you? What is your favorite thing about autumn and what are you excited to incorporate into your fall wardrobe?

Goodbye September

Goodbye September and hello October!

Wow...September seems to have just flown by, where did it go? How did that even happen? Although I am extremely excited for all of the wonderful occasions that are ahead now that it is October, I don't want to forget all of the lovely little memories that I made in September. I think it is very important to treasure even the smallest perhaps "insignificant" moments in life. The start of a new month is the perfect time to remember all of the great parts of the month that has just come to an end.

I really enjoyed making this little collage of
my September. I think I am going to make it a
monthly tradition,what do you think?

If you didn't already know, my sister and I have a Youtube channel, TwoYearsEightMonths, the name came from our age difference, I am exactly two years and eight months older than she is..Clever, huh? Anyways I really wanted to share this portion of my life with you because although it isn't completely related to fashion (we do have a selection of fashion/beauty videos though)it is important for me to document some other passions of mine on this page and hopefully you guys will enjoy it too! We just started around 6 months ago so we definitely have a lot of improving to do but we are very excited about our channel and have a lot of ideas for future videos! Here is my most recent video of my September favorites.

I hope you all had a superb September and have an even better October!

Michelle

College Fashion

Hello everyone! I know I haven't posted in a while but I have just been so busy with college and Youtube and trying to keep up with my...ahem... other social media pages..but anyways, I really wanted to get back to blogging and today's post is going to be more me writing about goings on and observations so sorry if you are in the mood for pictures but I will be sure to have some in my next post and hopefully you enjoy this little bit of story time with Michelle.

About a month ago I started my first semester of university, I wasn't really sure what to expect especially in terms of fashion. What do people wear in college? Would it be the same as my high school with a diverse range of styles? Would I be able to wear the same kinds of clothes without being judged? So far there is definitely a range of different styles, which is awesome, however, it seems like there is more pressure to wear casual lazy clothes then in high school where I felt more pressure to be dressed up all the time..But maybe that's just my sleepiness talking! ;)

As far as my college style goes I have already been sucked into the vortex of sweatpants and leggings, usually a couple times a week, which I admit is kind of a relief. Being able to roll out of bed and throw on comfy clothes to go to school without the fear being judged is a wonderful feeling, especially after a long night of studying... or reblogging things on Tumblr. I feel that it shows confidence and secureness with who you are as a person (and a fashionista) to occasionally be able to go out without putting much effort into your appearance.

However, once I get my mocha in and walk across campus with the cool fall wind nipping at my cheeks, blowing the sleepiness away, I will realize how I wish I dressed up a little more. In high school I was always the one who looked put together, always the one standing out of the crowd. I miss this sometimes but I know that underneath the leggings and bulky sweatshirts the same girl is still there, she just has more social media to keep her procrastinating school work into the late night!

Besides being unbelievably lazy, practicality has a lot to do with my changes in fashion choices as well. Now that I am in college I am walking every which way, from my car across campus, across campus to another class, back across campus to the University Center and then back to my car... all in the cold autumn rain. Obviously that is going to have an impact on my outfit. Am I going to wear my adorable red flats with the white polka dots that are a half size too small but still the cutest things ever? Or should I choose my dingy brown Sketchers boots that are both comfortable and weather resistant? Although I am all about looking cute, I'm not about looking stupid and being uncomfortable.

What I am trying to get to with this post is that even if you give yourself those lazy days, that you very much deserve, that does not mean you are losing your sense of style or that you are not a fashionable person. Being a fashionista is, and always will be, inside of you. It courses through your veins and no amount of yoga pants or lazy days can take that away from you. Dressing up and getting ready are still my favorite things ever but we all need a day off or two!

Sorry this was such a rant but hopefully you enjoyed it and maybe you can relate to this!

Do you guys have any advice for me (or other readers) about looking cute but being comfortable at the same time? What about looking cute while bundled up? I'm going to be doing some experimenting with this and will probably do some posts on it but I want to know your ideas as well!! :)

Thanks for reading!

Love,

Michelle

All You Need is a Dress

Sometimes when you are feeling down there is really nothing better then taking as long as you like to just get ready. You can start off taking a long bath and fill the water with bubbles and lovely scented oils and let the perfumed water just devour all of your stress. After you finish your bath and you are nice and clean and refreshed feel free to use all of your really nice makeup and take your time to make sure everything is done just how you like it. After that you can do your hair and just enjoy the process of styling it, there is no rush! And of course you can finish it off by putting on the dress that you have been saving for a special occasion, that dress that makes you feel like a princess mixed with a high fashion model, it is amazing what a dress can do to lift your spirits! Even if you aren't going anywhere particularly exciting I find that the day just becomes brighter by going through this process of getting ready.

For me getting ready is not a chore or a hassle, unless I'm really tired and lazy and just want to lie around in my pjs all day long which can be just as nice sometimes! But usually getting ready for me is one of my favorite times of the day. It is a time I get to dedicate to myself, a meditative process where I can just pause the stress and the work of daily life and just relax.

Instead of freaking out about the test you are going to have later in the day throw that to the back of your mind, even if it is just for an hour, just focus on how good you are getting at using liquid eyeliner or how amazing your new curling wand makes your hair look. People may think this is vain or narcissistic but I truly think that it is completely necessary, even if it is just once in a while, to stop and focus on yourself and the little things that make YOU feel good.

Moving on to my outfit in these pictures! The reason for my rant is because the day these were taken my sister and I spent hours and hours getting ready, we weren't going anywhere special or anything but just wanted to dress up, feel good and take some pictures.

I love Peter Pan collars!

This lovely dress is from Primark and I freaked out
When I found out Zoella has the same one in another
color!
This ADORABLE heart bag is from
H&M and it is my favorite!

My go to earrings are from Icing!

I believe these flats are from Ross! They go with
everything!

I would like to finish this blog post by thanking everyone who is following me so far. I have never actually had followers on a blog before so it is incredible that there are actual people who are looking at my posts this time around! Thank you for seeing something in me and in my blog. I have a lot more that I want to do to this page and I know there are MANY things that could be improved and I definitely am working on that. Please don't give up on me because I promise it will only get better here on When Thread Met Fabric!

Thank you everyone, have a lovely week!

Love,

Michelle

Back to School Again!

As many people of 18 years of age do, I am about to begin my first year of college. I am not sure what to think of it yet. I am excited to embark on this journey of self discovery and higher learning but also afraid. "What do you want to be when you grow up?" is a question that often taunts me. The idea of having to choose what I want to do for a living is absolutely terrifying to me. Not because I have no idea what I want to do but because I want to do so much! I have so many passions that I could carry out into many different careers, art, fashion, music, languages, film, theatre, teaching, writing... these are all things I have interest in and it frightens me to think of having to choose only one of them. For now I guess I'll just work on being happy when I grow up, because happiness is truly priceless.

Ready to go back to school?

My high waisted shorts are from Forever 21.
I ordered my Oxfords from Amazon.com! They
can be worn throughout the entire year!

I really like this look for back to school, it is cute
and very comfortable too!
My polka dotted collared shirt is from
TJ Maxx!

Going back to school usually is something most people dread,
switch it up this year by thinking about what you're looking forward
to! Whether it be seeing your friends, taking a fun new class or
wearing that new pair of shoes that desperately want a day out!
Whatever it is there's always something.

Love,

Michelle

Summer Style

I think that summer is one of the best times for Fashion. Don't get me wrong I adore big sweaters and boots as much as the next clothes enthusiast but there is something really quite special about being able to put on a dress, a few accessories and having your outfit be complete.

The little rainbow by my foot really makes the
best of all accessories!

My dress is from Forever 21 and my bag is
from Primark.

I purchased these adorable sandals at a street
fair in Aix en Provence, France.

This lovely bow bag goes with everything!
Such a great purchase.

My bow is from Wet Seal and my smile was given
to me by the summer :)

I truly loved this summer, it had its ups and downs
but I like to believe everything happens for a reason. I think summers mark important stages in our lives whether they be the smallest of things like learning how to swim or even greater things like falling in or perhaps out of love. If you made a timeline of all the summers you can remember I believe you will find an incredible metamorphosis. All I know is that mine is not over yet. Not even close.

Love,

Michelle

Prom: The Biggest Fashion Show in High School

When it comes to High School, every day can be a fashion show, however, probably the biggest showcase of peoples' style is Prom, where everyone is dressed to impress, an occasion that I always found invigorating! This year my senior prom was a "masquerade" and since I struggled with finding a mask I decided to make my own, I was very happy with how it turned out!

When I went shopping for a dress for my Senior Prom I was surprised at how shops that specialized in dresses for special occasions had a very limited selection of dresses. It was pretty difficult for me being smaller in size(yeah I know skinny girl sob story, but hear me out!)to find a dress that fit correctly. Most dresses I tried on in boutiques looked very baggy on me and were very unflattering. I don't know if they were sold out of small sizes or just never had them in stock. Many dresses were also covered in bling or animal print and I felt kind of insulted that dress makers think that those dresses are an accurate representation of what girls my age would wear on a night where they want to look their most beautiful. All in all I was not impressed. Where were all the classy, elegant and unique dresses?? Well, surprisingly, I happened to find many of them, including my Prom dress, at Dillard's.

Before the actual dance there was "The Grand March" Where everyone is announced and then they walk around in front of the people who came to watch, much like an actual fashion show. It was very exciting to see everyone all dressed up showcasing their different styles. There were people wearing princess ball gowns, flirty short dresses, sexy mermaid style gowns, some vintage hollywood looks and many, many others.  I thought my dress represented me perfectly, it was feminine, classy and just a little different.

Prom is the perfect end to the school year and an
amazing chance to showcase your individual style
and to just have fun! My dress was a strapless nude
high low dress from Dillard's! I really recommend
looking for your Prom dress at department stores
rather than boutiques. Usually there is a better
selection, a range of sizes and they are much,
much cheaper! I hope you enjoyed your Prom!

Love,

Michelle

Today's Fashion Haul!

Today I went shopping with my Aunt who came to visit us from Chile as a surprise. She wanted to pick some things out to bring back to my cousin and I thought I would take my aunt to the mall today to see if we could find things for her to bring back to Chile.

I new I was in danger when I walked into Wet Seal and I saw that the dresses were 25% off!
I ended up getting two dresses at Wet Seal (the ones in the picture) and I was absolutely in love with both of them! The coral colored dress is a maxi dress but the lining stops at the knee and has little holes in it, kind of like netting. The blue one is knee length and has spaces for skin to show on either side, they were both so original and perfect for summer!

I also got two pastel colored sunglasses with a gold heart on either side of them. They were two for ten dollars, so I couldn't resist! Wet Seal is starting to grow on me now....
We then went to Victoria's Secret where I got two pairs of panties for FREE! How is this so, you ask? I  get coupons in the mail from Victoria's Secret that I think are from signing up for Angel Rewards or something.

Our last stop was at Icing where I got two gorgeous necklaces for twenty dollars! I kind of went crazy today... I usually don't do things like this but I just couldn't resist and it's good to splurge once in a while!

Michelle

The Best Time to Wear a Striped Sweater

Last week I went to the mall to pick up some take-out from Noodle Express and my sister and I could not help but glance in a couple of stores while we were waiting for our food. We went into American Eagle and as always they racks and shelves full of adorable things. I wanted to buy them all! Sadly American Eagle usually has pretty unreasonable prices, at least for a job-less student like me. I usually don't like spending a lot of money on clothes, I know it's bad but I would much rather have quantity then quality (if the quantity i am buying is full of cute things!).

We then wandered into Wet Seal, which usually is not really my style, and bam! There were some really gorgeous spring dresses at the front of the store. Of course me, being the cheap spender that I am, rushed to the back of the store to look at the sale racks and my sister happened to find an adorable striped white, blue and pink sweater on sale half off of the sale price. She graciously let me have it and when I calculated the numbers in my head, I found the price of the sweater to be an unbelievable $7.50.  Let's just take a moment to let this sink in....I could not believe it! Whenever I (or in this case my sister) find an amazing deal like this I feel like I'm an explorer and I have just made a glorious discovery.

Tonks is my modeling companion!
Sweaters and cats are two of my most
favorite things in this world :)

My collared dress is from Forever 21.

I ordered these Oxfords from Amazon.com
and I think they spice up an outfit perfectly.

Enjoy your sweater weather!

Love,

Michelle
